Twenty One Cartoon Characters (And One Puppet)

The following is what I consider to be the Twenty One Funniest Cartoon Characters (And One Puppet). Hope you enjoy.

Twenty Two
Name: Foghorn Leghorn
Creator: Robert McKimson
Foghorn Leghorn
While he had all the charm “of a southern politician at a church picnic,” he was undoubtedly a prankster with a touch of evil. If you’re not convinced, just remember that singing “camptown races” prior to whacking a sleeping dog with a wooden board is hilarious.

Twenty One
Name: Barney Rubble
Creator: Hanna Barbera
Barney Rubble
His buoyant style and easy-going nature was the perfect foil for the uptight Fred Flintstone. The Simpsons character, Barney Gumble, was created as an homage to Barney Rubble.

Twenty
Name: Michelangelo
Creator: Eastman & Laird
Michelangelo
He basically did nothing except eat pizza while the rest of the crew learned important lessons about how to overcome obstacles – the comic relief. He’s a teenager, a mutant, a ninja and… he’s also a TURTLE. Is that not the ultimate recipe for humor?

Nineteen
Name: Lenny Leonard & Carl Carlson
Creator: Matt Groening
Lenny and Carl
Alone, they are merely flat, background characters. Together, they form a memorable, dynamic comedy tandem. Just remember: Lenny = White, Carl = Black.

Eighteen
Name: Bender (aka Bender Bending Rodriguez)
Creator: Matt Groening
Bender
“This is the worst kind of discrimination. The kind against me.” An amoral, kleptomaniacal, alcoholic robot with an evil twin named “Flexo,” Bender, the funniest character on Futurama, would likely have had a larger following had the show fared better.

Seventeen
Name: Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbes)
Creator: Bill Waterson
Calvin and Hobbes
A six-year old boy with quite the imagination! Says Bill Waterson: “I guess he’s a little too intelligent for his age. The thing that I really enjoy about him is that he has no sense of restraint, he doesn’t have the experience yet to know the things that you shouldn’t do.”

Sixteen
Name: C. Montgomery Burns
Creator: Matt Groening
Mr Burns
“Excellent!” The billionaire plutocrat of the Town of Springfield, Burns represents the extremely affluent, the incarnation of greed and evil. Despite this negative periphery, Burns’ miniscule frame, his tendency to believe he still lives in the early 1900s when tycoons like JP Morgan ruled America, and his sharp wit make him very quotable, very likable.

Fifteen
Name: Wile E Coyote
Creator: Chuck Jones
Wile E Coyote
O, how I hated the roadrunner, that smug son of a…! Coyote’s clever attempts to snare the flightless bird were limited only by his imagination. And while a modern audience may prefer a more verbal anti-hero for their amusement, the coyote’s inbility to catch the road runner remains the prototypical existential comedy.

Fourteen
Name: Bart Simpson
Creator: Matt Groening
Bart Simpson
A classic underachiever, whose mischievous antics translate into a teenage role model for troublemaking, Bart Simpson carried “the Simpsons” animated cartoon series during its initial foray onto the television screen. In 1998, Time magazine selected Bart as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Thirteen
Name: Yakko, Wakko, & Dot
Creator: Warner Brothers
Yakko Wakko Dot
“Hellooooooooo Nurse.” Come join the Warner Brothers (and the Warner sister Dot). Just for fun they run around the Warner movie lot. They lock us in the tower, whenever we get caught. But we break loose and then vamoose and now you know the plot.

Twelve
Name: Genie (from Aladdin)
Creator: Disney
Genie From Aladdin
Getting Robin Williams during his prime to voice the Genie was simply magic. He stole the show. “Mister Aladdin, sir, have a wish or two or three… I’m on the job, you big nabob… You ain’t never had a friend like me!”

Eleven
Name: Towelie (and maybe Timmy & Butters)
Creator: Matt Stone & Trey Parker
Towelie
Ah, what to do with the supporting cast of Southpark? Certainly, the randomest character in all of history is Towelie. And while he’s discovering the melody to Funky Town, I should mention that the peripheral characters of Southpark are outstanding, most notably Timmy & Butters, who exemplify the style and creativity of the show’s creators.

Ten
Name: Brian
Creator: Seth MacFarlane
Brian
It’s the duality of Brian that makes him special. On the one hand, he has class, sophistication, enjoys the opera, jazz, can speak Tagalog, moderates family arguments, enjoys a dry martini, and reads Fyodor Dostoevsky. On the other hand, it’s peanut butter jelly time.

Nine
Name: Bugs Bunny
Creator: Warner Brothers
Bugs Bunny
“Eh… what’s up doc?” What would the world have been like had Bugs Bunny actually taken that left at Albuquerque? Easily the most important animated character in history (Mickey who?).

Eight
Name: Daffy Duck
Creator: Warner Brothers
Daffy Duck
What a screwball character! Bugs may have been the most popular, but Daffy was the funniest. One of the greatest animated shorts ever created (“Duck Amuck”) starred Daffy Duck, who is tormented by an unseen animator, in a surreal adventure that bent the rules of animation.

Seven
Name: Pinky & The Brain
Creator: Tom Ruegger
Pinky and the Brain
“Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?” “The same thing we do every night Pinky – Try to take over the world!” I never got tired of that premise. Animaniacs was severely underappreciated in its time.

Six
Name: Kim Jong Il
Creator: Matt Stone & Trey Parker
Kim Jong Il
Technically, he’s a puppet. I realize this. Only, he’s the funniest puppet I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness. I could explain why he belongs on this list, “but do you know how fucking busy I am.”

I hope I don’t need much justification for the top 5, so instead, I’ll offer a link to a page of their colorful quotations.

Five
Name: Ralph Wiggum
Creator: Matt Groening
Ralph Wiggum
“Me fail English? That’s unpossible.” Click here for Ralph quotes.

Four
Name: Peter Griffin

Name: Cartman

Two
Name: Stewie Griffin

One

Creator: Matt Groening
