Sympathy For The Stump

The Loat avenged an earlier stumping with last week’s 6 – 4 wallop of all and sundry. This week, opportunity knocks (wasn’t that the title of a Dana Carvey movie?). Can you Stump the Loat?

The rules are simple. There are sports trivia questions below. Answer as many of them as you can before our resident expert, Chris Loat, answers them. Google is your friend, but time is your enemy. You may answer as many questions as you like, but for posterity’s sake, please answer one at a time. This makes judging the correct answers easier.

In honor of the current playoff drives, this week’s theme:
Memorable (or Forgettable) Sports Playoff Moments

Null

The questions (12 of them) will magically appear today at 3:00 pm Est.

Here We Go!

The questions below will require you to identify the memorable/forgettable sport playoff moment pictured. Please identify the player and context that distinguishes the moment.

Question 7) Kirk gibson hits a game winning home run off Eckersley when he can barely walk and winces after every swing- game 1, 1988 world series

  3. halejon says:

    12) Superbowl XXXIV in 2000- Kevin dyson reaches for the end zone on the last play of the game, but comes up short

  4. hroman says:

#5 – Correct – Brett Hull incident. Jon.
(you referred to this as #4, but I get it)
    #7 – Correct – Kirk Gibson. Jon.

    Loat 0, Jon 2

Two more for Jon to ensure a single-handed Stumping of the Loat.
    Loat 0, Jon 4.

  7. halejon says:

    6) Reggie Miller hits a game-tying 3-pointer on May 10, 1998, they go on to win the game and series

  8. Dan says:

    1. Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. Boston vs NY Mets. We all know what Bill did.

  9. halejon says:

    4) Carlton Fisk’s home run in Game 6 of the 1975 world series- he’s gesuring at it to stay fair

  10. halejon says:

    2) Michael Jordans’ 1998 game winner in game 6 against the jazz

  11. halejon says:

    3) Dwight Clark making what came to be known as “The Catch” in the 1982 super bowl

    10. Ah poor Steve Bartman, blamed for the Cubs lost in the 2003 NLCS.

  13. halejon says:

    3) (a catch in the end zone for the winning touchdown with 51 seconds left in the game)

  14. Dan says:

    5. Game 6 of the 98-99 Stanley Cup final, won by Brett Hull’s “in the crease” goal that was clearly illegal.

  15. Dan says:

    Nuts, already done by Jon.

  16. halejon says:

    10) Steve bartman interferes with a-up in Game 6 between the Cubs and the Marlins in the 2003 NLCS, and the curse lives on…

    #2 – Correct – Jordan’s Shot Against Jazz. Jon
    #4 – Correct – Carlton Fisk. Jon

#6 – There’s a little bit more to this one. The play lives in infamy because of the extroardinary nature of the 3 pointer… Clarification?

So Loat ensured me he would be here, but he hasn’t answered a question yet. Is this another helping of shame/fear?

    Jon 6, Dan 1, Loat 0

  18. hroman says:

#3 – Correct. Montana to Clark. Jon
    #10 – Correct. Bartman! Dan.

    It’s Jon 7, Dan 2, Loat 0.

    6) He was being taunted by spike lee? He scored 8 points in a 8.9 period to win the game?

  22. hroman says:

#6 – Correct… The 8 points in 8 seconds was what I was looking for. Jon
#8 – Correct. Norwood Wide Right. Dan.

Only 11 left. It’s hard because of the angle.

    Jon 8, Dan 3, Loat 0.

The Loat has most definitely been stumped.

  23. hroman says:

    For 11, think “College Basketball”
Dan, how’s the day off so far?

  24. Dan says:

    11. Oh crap, thought Jon had it 1992 overtime East Regional Final. Kentucky vs Duke. Grant Hill’s 75-foot-plus pass and Christian Laettner’s 17-foot buzzer-beater.

    I love day’s off!

  25. Dan says:

Though Jon’s now streaming MLBtv to a HighDef screen for spring training, its like getting a sweet fix of methadone to tide you over till the big game. I can’t wait till opening day!!

  26. hroman says:

    Yeah, 11′s correct.
A clean sweep for Stumping. I get the feeling that Loat isn’t much interested in this tomfoolery anymore!

Oh man, streaming MLB to a HiDef? I need a fix.

  27. Dan says:

Oh man – We all need a fix.

  28. Chris says:

Damn…got pulled away from my desk at the wrong time. Stupid job!

  29. halejon says:

It’s not bad actually- the picture isn’t anywhere near as clear and there’s the occasional chop, but it’s definitely watchable if you’re used to a 12 year old TV anyway…

I hope the Loat doesn’t show the same careless indifference to his Fantasy Baseball League, because the shame will be tenfold!!!
