It’s another Monday and we’re that much closer to the winter holidays. With all those Christmas carols in my head, I thought this week’s puzzle challenge should incorporate music that’s anything but holiday-related.

Your task for this week’s puzzle is thus to identify the popular SONG from the rebuses that I’ve created below. There are 15 song titles encrypted in some fashion. (For instance, “Stairway to Heaven” could be encrypted by showing a picture of a staircase and a picture of the Garden of Eden). Super bonus for anyone who can figure out the last one.

Happy Scheming.

  • I got Marley for #1.
    Prince #9.
    The Clash at #8.
    Nirvana #15.
Mommas and the Poppas for #6.
#4’s the real thing, so I’ll take Dylan over Neil Young (who just played some kick ass concerts in New York)
That would be George Harrison for #7
I’m seeing Elvis Presley at #14, but it’s a fuzzy fit – I’m probably wrong.
    #12 is Meatloaf.

So that’s 8 and one maybe. Not a bad start.

  • pixielynh

#1 is No Woman, No Cry
    #2 is Burning Man ????
    #3 is Tiny Dancer
#5 is Holiday (woo hoo Madonna)
    #6 is California Dreaming
#7 is While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    #8 is London Calling
    #9 is Purple Rain
    #10 is Proud Mary
    #13 is Bombs over Baghdad
#14 is Where the Streets Have No Name
#15 is Smells Like Teen Spirit

  • b-lit

#12 is Paradise by the Dashboard Light

  • b-lit

#4 is Here’s the story of the Hurricaine (I think I have the title wrong)?

  • Okay, looks like we have some clever musical minds on our hands.

First off, JD, you’ve got all the artists correct for the ones you answered, except for
#14, which is not Elvis Presley.
    #9, which is not Prince.

PixieLynh, you also answered Purple Rain for #9, which is not the song I was looking for. You’ve got the “Purple” part correct, only it’s not rain in the second part of the picture.

PixieLynh, all your answers are correct too, except for #2, which is not Burning Man. Way to get numbers 10 and 14.

B-Lit, your answers are both correct. #4 is titled simply “Hurricane” by Bob Dylan.

  • So, just to Recap the correct answers so far:

#1: No Woman, No Cry (Bob Marley)
    #2:
    #3: Tiny Dancer (Elton John)
    #4: Hurricane (Bob Dylan)
    #5: Holiday (Madonna)
#6: California Dreaming (Mommas and the Pappas)
#7: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Harrison/Beatles)
    #8: London Calling (The Clash)
    #9:
#10: Proud Mary (CCR / Ike & Tina Turner)
    #11:
#12: Paradise By The Dashboard Light (Meatloaf)
    #13: Bombs Over Baghdad (Outkast)
#14: Where The Streets Have No Name (U2)
#15: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)

Good job. We still need answers for:
    Number 2, Number 9, and Number 11.

  • Tien

    I’ll take a guess…

9: Purple Haze….no idea by whom.
    11: Something by Zeppelin…Kashmir?

  • scamper

Just call me Rudy Giuliani, because I got your 9-11 right here:

    9. Purple Haze
    11. Kashmir

  • Yes, both Tien and Scamper Giuliani, seconds apart, get the answer.

    #9: Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix)
    #11: Kashmir (Led Zeppelin)

    #2 is still unsolved.

  • Brookie

    2. Standing Outside the Fire … Garth Brooks

  • Brookie, that’s correct.
    Good ol’ Garth Brooks.

That ends the puzzle challenge for this week.

  • pixielynh

awww … is #9 Purple Haze?

  • pixielynh

    Good ole Jimi Hendrix!

#2 is ??? Burning up inside? Ring of Fire? Fire Within?

  • scamper

I actually googled for #2 and I did find the Garth Brooks song. “No way Hamid would choose a song by that guy” I thought to myself. How wrong I was…
I also considered Into the Fire, by Sarah Maclauglin…

  • pixielynh

whoa … Apparently I took a long time pressing Submit. Now I look stupid.

  • Even though the answers are all here and the challenge is over, I will be honest, and say that I only got five of them….haha…lameness! ;-)

  • Actually, that song was playing on TV and it gave me the idea for the post. I thought “hey, I could draw a picture of a stickman standing outside of a fire”… So I had to pay homage.
