This past Saturday, on a cold November morning inside Toronto’s Eaton Center, a number of participants took part in Petro-Canada’s “I Will Dream Big” contest. The contest asked Canadians across the country to submit their ideas for the next Olympic Sport. A number of potential finalists were then chosen – from Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto – and asked to present their case to a panel of judges. In two minutes.

In Toronto, the contest folks set up a podium at the Eaton Center. A panel of judges, including figure skater Jennifer Robinson and ice hockey player Vicky Sunohara, were there to chose the city’s representative in the national contest.

While some guy made a case for Crazy Eights and another lady made a plea for Bowling, in the end the judges were clear in their conviction:

Bronze Medal: Synchronized Skating.
Silver Medal: Jump Rope.
Gold Medal: Trick Biking.

“We asked Canadians across the country to tell us what they thought should be the next Olympic or Paralympic sport. We filmed their responses, and now it’s up to you to help choose the winner. The winner will have a chance to present their sport before the Canadian Olympic Committee and will win a trip for two to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. What do I think should be the next Olympic Sport? It doesn’t matter. My ideas were all rejected:

Channel Surfing.
Spectator Football.
Thumb Wrestling.
Kicking Ass.
